Tom in Tech Support Tidbit:

For more than two decades, the edict from the Siemens MI-SPECT Group was the UPS option is not covered by Siemens Service Agreements.  On November 16, 2023, that changed for systems installed in the United States.  On that date, it was announced that moving forward,  both the gantry and workstation UPS for systems installed in the United States, will be covered under warranty and contract, if the UPS was originally purchased from Siemens and the Siemens Service Agreement includes General Spare Parts coverage.

For systems installed in Canada, a UPS and its batteries remain a "consumable," and therefore not included in Siemens Service Agreements unless UPS coverage is specifically denoted.  The lone exception for systems installed in Canada is the Pro.Specta gantry UPS, which has the same coverage as US-based systems.

Refer to the chart shown below for part numbers.

APC UPS OEM Warranty

Be aware that APC product warranties are based on a fixed period of time starting from the purchase date of the unit.  If proof of purchase cannot be obtained, the warranty duration is calculated from the manufacture date of the unit.  As multiple factors go into determining the validity of a warranty, you must speak with APC Customer Care Center to obtain the most accurate information.

You can estimate your units manufacturing date via its serial number.  The serial number is not on the front of the unit, but can be found on a sticker on either the bottom or rear of your product.  The third and fourth digits indicate the year your unit was manufactured, while the following 2 characters are the week your unit was manufactured.

For example, if your serial number is XX1915XXXXX, this means your product was manufactured in the year 2019 during the 15th week.

On Siemens camera systems other than CCAM and Pro.Specta, Siemens installs either an APC RT5000 UPS (see image below on left) or an APC SRT5K UPS (see image below on right).  The former is no longer manufactured; it was replaced by the latter.  Each UPS is rated for 5000 watts.  Each should be setup to output 208 VAC.

Each of the below APC UPS will have a NEMA L6-30P plug on its power cable and a NEMA L6-30R receptacle on its rear panel for a Siemens SPECT camera.  For a Siemens SPECT-only system, the APC UPS will plug into a wall receptacle.  For a SPECT/CT system, the UPS will need to be hard-wired to incoming power.  If replacing an APC RT5000 UPS with an APC SRT5K UPS on a Siemens SPECT/CT, then an APC Smart-UPS SRT Output Hardwire Kit is needed to connect directly to the incoming power source.  Contact Schneider Electric if additional clarification is needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In most cases, the UPS connected to a Siemens MI-SPECT system has the same input and output voltage.  Therefore, if the UPS fails, it can be bypassed without causing any significant issues.  However, any Siemens SPECT/CT system is an exception to the rule.  Typically on these systems, the UPS for the SPECT gantry has 230 to 240 volts at its input and 208 volts at its output.  Therefore, do not bypass the SPECT gantry UPS on any Siemens SPECT/CT system without contacting Siemens Healthineers for guidance.  While it is possible to bypass the UPS, adjustments must be performed to the isolation transformer inside the SPECT gantry.

ICS/IRS/DRS

The UPS for an ICS/IRS/DRS is covered by Siemens Healthineers warranty and service agreements.  Rather that replacing the batteries, in most cases the entire UPS is replaced based upon the maintenance schedule show below.

Note:  The Eaton MGE 2200VA is an exception to the rule.  Replacement batteries are available for that UPS.  Below is a link to the Eaton Battery Selector Tool.  When using the tool below, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to enter the correct Model Number shown on the rear of the UPS.  Otherwise, the wrong battery could be ordered.  Select “America-USA” as the country code when using the tool.

MI Workplace / Symbia.net

Most UPS for a MI Workplace or a Symbia.net have a two year warranty from the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Typically, Siemens Heathineers installs either an APC Smart-UPS 1500 or Tripplite Smart1500SLT.  A replacement battery is available from the Original Equipment Manufacturer and replacement videos are shown below.

ECAM / SYMBIA-E

On early models of ECAM, Siemens installed an Alpha Technologies CFR2500 UPS.  For the past 20 years, Siemens has been installing a UPS from APC.  If you have a 20 year-old UPS,  then Tom in Tech Support suggests its time for a new model.  Click here for the CFR-2500 Manual.

Typically, Siemens Heathineers installs an APC Smart-UPS RT5000 on an ECAM or a Symbia-E.  Click here for the APC RT500o Manual.  The batteries usually last at least four years before needing to be replaced.  Replacement batteries are available from the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Schneider Electric is a designated “service agent” for issues with a Siemens installed APC UPS.  Their phone number is 877-342-5173.

Be advised an APC RT5000 UPS has two battery trays, each weighing 31 pounds and each containing eight 12V batteries wired in series as shown below.  The trays are available from APC as part number APCRBC140 (the box weighs 76 pounds).   To replace the existing batteries, click on the APCRBC140 Battery Replacement Video shown below.

PRO.SPECTA

Typically, Siemens Heathineers installs an EATON 9PX 6000 UPS in the IEC (Integrated Equipment Cabinet) for a Pro.Specta system.  It supplies backup power for the SPECT gantry and all the computers, but not for the CT scanner.   Replacement batteries are available from the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

SYMBIA S/T/INTEVO/EVO SPECT GANTRY

Typically, Siemens Heathineers installs an APC Smart-UPS RT5000 or an APC Smart-UPS SRT5k.  The former only has LED indicators, while the latter has a LCD, but both use the same batteries.  The batteries usually last at least four years before needing to be replaced.  Replacement batteries are available from the Original Equipment Manufacturer.
